July is Group B Strep Awareness month ( Group B streptococcus) also known as GBS, and it's more than likely something you've never heard of, yet it is in fact a very common bacteria that is found in the gastrointestinal tract - which is your gut, the vagina and the urethra of all sexes, and of any age. You won't have any symptoms, it's just there. It's a bacteria that is around no matter where in the world you live, and it is present in both the developed and developing world, and can be passed on by kissing and close physical contact. If you are not pregnant, you don't need to worry about GBS, as it's when someone is pregnant and GBS is present that there may be complications.
