Broken vase puts husband in doghouse

Dear Write to Know: Hello. My wife recently inherited an early 19th-century china vase that was converted into a lamp during the Victorian era. It is an item that she treasures. I purchased a new shade for the lamp and while I was "trying it on for size" on our soapstone counter, it fell over and broke. The whole body cracked and 2 large pieces, along with a few chips, have detached. I am looking for someone on Cape who does fine china restoration and repair. I need to get out of the doghouse, lol. Any help with finding an expert to make this heirloom look like it did when it arrived at our home, just a few short weeks ago, will be greatly appreciated.

St. Jude's accepts blank greeting cards

Dear Write to Know: This time of year I tackle spring cleaning chores and found a large number of old cards I would like to give away. I hate to just toss them in the landfill. Do you have any suggestions where to send them?

A.P., Eastham

Dear A.P.: We have answered this question before. St. Jude's Ranch for Children accepts used all-occasion greeting cards. However, they cannot accept Hallmark, Disney or American Greetings cards. Only the front of the cards can be used, so please make sure the back of the card front is blank. The cards can be mailed to St. Jude's Ranch for Children Recycled Card Program, 100 St. Jude's St., Boulder City, NV 89005.

Website serves up recipe for fish tacos

Dear Write to Know: Recently you printed a recipe for fish lasagna. Can you recommend another seafood dish? I always enjoy trying out new recipes for my family. Thanks.

D.W., South Dennis

Dear D.W.: We searched our archives and found a delicious recipe for fish tacos and chili pepper slaw. This is from the Better Homes and Gardens website: www.bhg.com/recipe/seafood/fish-tacos-with-cabbage-and-chile-pepper-slaw. Enjoy!

FISH TACOS

1 1/2 pounds fresh or frozen cod or halibut fillets thawed and cut into 1-inch piece

2 fresh tomatillos, cut into 1/2-inch pieces (2 cups)

2 teaspoons olive oil

1 clove garlic, minced

1/2 teaspoon finely shredded orange peel

1/2 teaspoon finely shredded lime peel

12, 6-inch corn tortillas

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

INSTRUCTIONS

In a bowl, toss together fish, tomatillos, oil, garlic, orange peel and lime peel. Season with salt and black pepper; set aside.

Cut six 12-inch-square sheets of foil. Place 1/6 (about 2/3 cup) fish mixture in the center of each square.

Fold diagonally in half in a triangle. Fold edges two or three times to make a packet.

Place packets in a single layer on a large baking sheet.

Bake fish 10 to 12 minutes, until packets puff slightly (carefully open a packet to check fish doneness; fish should flake easily with a fork).

Meanwhile, in dry skillet warm tortillas over medium-high heat until soft, about 15 seconds per side.

CABBAGE AND CHILI PEPPER SLAW

5 ounces green cabbage, thinly shredded (1 1/4 cups)

1/2 cup thinly sliced red onion

1 poblano or pasilla pepper, halved crosswise, seeded and thinly sliced

1 carrot, peeled and shredded

1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro

3 tablespoons olive oil

2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice

1 tablespoon freshly squeezed orange juice

In a medium bowl combine cabbage, red onion, poblano pepper, carrot and cilantro.

For the dressing, in a small bowl combine olive oil, lime juice and orange juice. Season with salt. Toss with slaw.

To serve, divide the fish mixture between the tortillas. Top with Cabbage and Chile Pepper Slaw. Serve immediately. Makes 6 servings.
